2011 Session Medallion - 1 Troy Ounce .999 Silver

The 76th Legislative Session was held in 2011. The Medallion for that year featured the Nevada State Insect, the Vivid Dancer Demselfly.

The Vivid Dancer Damselfly, was approved as Nevada’s official state insect on May 4, 2009, in Senate Bill 166, was selected via a statewide contest open to all fourth-grade classrooms. Requirements included submitting a page-long, researched essay, including the students’ rationale for why the blue and silver insect is a good symbol for  Nevada . They discovered the Damselfly is abundant in all four regions of Nevada , and serves Nevadans by preying on freshwater pests. 74 classrooms participated, representing 57 schools in 7 counties.  The winning class was from John R. Beatty Elementary School in Las Vegas .

This medallion is one troy ounce of .999 silver and pressed at the historic Carson City Mint. The cc mint mark is featured on the obverson of the medallion coin.
