The 72nd Legislative Session was held in 2003. The Medallion for that year featured the Nevada Legislative Emblem. The Emblem was designed in 1967 by the Senior Government Class at Tonopah High School. The emblem features a ring of 17 stars, representing the counties of Nevada, as well as a mace, the traditional symbol of Legislatures, superimposed over an outline of the State which includes a star locating the capital. At the base of the mace are two sprigs of sagebrush, the state flower, and a scroll bearing the state slogan, "Battle Born".
