Description: A gold discovery in July 1849 began Dayton’s history.  Trail guide Abner Blackburn began prospecting and found gold while waiting for the snow to melt in the Sierra. By 1851, it is reported that 200 miners were living in the canyon, which became Dayton.  In 1859, miners discovered a large silver and gold deposit known as the Comstock Lode which led Nevada to statehood in 1864.  The local historian author is a journalist and one of the founders of the Dayton Museum as well as the Historical Society of Dayton Valley.   This autographed copy contains many pictures of historical Dayton and the characters who shaped it. 128 pages.
